Colombia
Colombia, lies in northern South America, widely recognized, unfortunately for its drug cartels and infamous drug dealer, Pablo Escobar... Colombia has a much more wider appeal.
Bogota, the capital, with a population of 7 million sits in the Andes at 8600 feet... providing a cool and comfortable climate.
Must visits include the Gold Museum, Plaza Bolívar and the Museo Botero, you may not recognize the artist’s name, Fernando Botero, but you will recognize his famous works of art.
A trip to Bogota would not be complete without a tram ride to the top of Monserrate, a mountain over 10,000 feet high with captivating views of Bogota. A shrine and a church along with with small shops and food stalls sit at the top.
Before you leave Bogota, try the classic ajiaco soup (Bogota Potato Soup) made with chicken, three varieties of potatoes, onions, garlic, green onions, cilantro and broth served with a small piece of corn, rice , cream and avocados in a classic chambra soup pot.
Onto Cartagena, a port city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.... hot, humid and “sticky“ all year round, dress for a very tropical climate.
Visit the walled off old town, walk the cobbled streets and pass the beautiful colorful colonial building. A picture of the Colombian natives, called Caribes in their beautiful colorful outfits will cost a few pesos.
Grab a cold fruit drink from a street vendor to cool off!
Enjoy Colombia!

I wish that all of nature’s magnificence, the emotion of the land, the living energy of place could be photographed.
