Equador
A trip to Ecuador would not be complete without a trip to the Galapagos. The Galapagos is a province of Ecuador that lies approximately 600 miles off the western coast mainland. It ‘s hard not to think about the Galapagos without thinking of Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. The chain of volcanic islands is rich in biodiversity, both botanically and teaming with marine, avian and reptilian species.
Guayaquil is a port city and the gateway to the Galapagos. Walk along the promenade and indulge in the local cuisine, the ceviche is delicious.
Travel into the Amazon, visit Banos, the gateway into the Amazon Basin. Put a pair of boots on and walk through the Amazon basin, filled with exotic fauna.
Cuenca is a city in the Andes Mountains, walk old town, sit in the plaza at night and take in the beautifully lit churches and building.
Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is the largest city of the country with an elevation of 9350 feet and lies on The Equator. Interestingly, Quito was named the very first UNESCO World Heritage Site. A very walkable city with outdoor markets, restaurants and many historic landmarks and churches.
No worries about currency conversion, the United States greenback is Ecuador’s official currency.
